The nova 8 SE has a length and width of 74.8 × 161.6 mm, and with a thickness of 7.46 mm and a weight of 178 grams, it is one of the thin and light devices on the market. The apparently flat metal frame and the camera module, which is shaped like a square and a circle, subconsciously remind the viewer of the design of the iPhone 12. The phone is available in four colors: black, white, blue and silver.
Having an OLED display on mid-range phones is a big plus, and the nova 8 SE has that advantage. The display has a 6.53-inch FHD + resolution (equivalent to 2400 x 1080 pixels) and a fingerprint sensor is embedded under the layer. 100% support for DCI-P3 color gamut and HDR10 support are other features of this display. Not to mention, being certified by TÜV Rheinland, along with features such as dark mode, e-book mode and DC dimming technology, are some of the things that reduce the risk of damage and high pressure on the user’s eyes.
As mentioned in the introduction, the nova 8 SE is processed in both advanced and standard models, both of which use MediaTek processors. The advanced model uses a 7nm Dimensity 800U chipset consisting of 2 2.4 GHz Cortex-A76 cores and 6 2 GHz Cortex-A55 cores. But Huawei has used a weaker Dimensity 720 chip in the standard version of this phone. The chip is made with 7-nanometer lithography and consists of 2 Cortex-A76 cores and 6 Cortex-A55 cores, with a maximum frequency of 2 GHz for each of the 8 cores. Both Mali-G57 GPUs have three cores.
The presence of 8 GB of RAM in this phone indicates smooth operation and the ability to move quickly between multiple applications. 128 GB of storage space is also allocated to this phone. The manufacturer did not say anything about the phone’s memory card support, but it seems that it is not possible to upgrade the internal memory.
The camera module on the back of the device – which is not unlike the iPhone 12 camera module – has 4 cameras. The main member of this series is a 64-megapixel camera with an aperture of f / 1.9. The 8-megapixel Ultraviolet camera – with f / 2.4 aperture and 120-degree field of view – aids in taking wide-angle shots, and depth and macro cameras (2 megapixels each with f / 2.4 aperture) complete the set.
The main camera has autofocus and digital zoom capability up to 10 times. Night mode, portrait mode (with skin beautification), professional photography mode, panorama shooting, HDR, time-lapse photography (time-lapse), voice control photography and smile detection are some of the camera features of this phone in the field of photography. The user of this phone can shoot videos with the main camera in 4K resolution and 30 frames per second. Not to mention, inside the notch of water drop above the screen, a 16-megapixel selfie camera (f / 2.0) is installed.
The nova 8 SE has a 3,800 mAh battery, which looks lower than normal compared to other nova 8 SEs. This difference becomes even more significant when we know that some low-end phones (such as the Redmi 9A and Redmi 9C) also use a 5,000 mAh battery. Of course, you may forget about the relatively low capacity of the battery when you hear about other features. The nova 8 SE battery uses 66 watt fast charging technology called Super Fast Charge. According to the manufacturer, the battery capacity can be increased from 0 to 60% in just 15 minutes. It also takes 35 minutes to fully charge the battery.
In introducing the nova 8 SE, Huawei mentions the existence of an efficient cooling system. According to the Chinese company, the cooling system – which has a sandwich structure – uses high-conductivity graphene with a heat dissipation capacity of up to 30% higher than conventional graphene.
nova 8 SE is a dual SIM phone equipped with fifth generation communications. In the advanced model of this phone, both SIM card slots support 5G communication, but in the standard model, only the first slot is 5G and the SIM card in the second slot can be active up to 4G network. Other connectivity options for the nova 8 SE include 2-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.1, USB-C port and support for BeiDo, Galileo, GLONASS, GPS and QZSS navigation systems. It is worth mentioning that the operating system of this phone is Android 10 and its user interface is EMUI 10.1.
The Huawei nova 8 SE smartphone will officially enter the Chinese market on November 11 (November 21). The standard version of this product is priced at 2,599 Chinese yuan, which at current exchange rates is roughly equivalent to US $ 390. The advanced version of the phone can be purchased for $ 2,699 ($ 410). Nothing has been said yet about the possibility of this phone entering markets outside China.
